The ocean behind them boiled with memory.The line moved sluggishly now — deliberate, doubtful. Dozens of vessels from forgotten worlds, half- ruined vessels and living crafts sutured from coral and bone, all sailed in uncertain conformation, not by command but by recognition.Not trust yet.But commodity close.Layla stood at the helm, no longer surprised that she knew how to steer.

The ocean was still. So impeccably still it felt unnatural. The boat approached without wind. Its cruises bagged in silence. Its housing glistered with living symbols that rearranged themselves constantly, as if the vessel were writing its own preface over and over. Layla, Omar, Soraya, and the child watched from the tabernacle way. The night around them had settled into an insolvable twilight — a mix of dusk and dawn that refused to come moreover. None of them spoke. There was nothing to say.

The night above the tabernacle remains was silent, but it was n't still. The stars had changed. Layla satcross-legged beside the blank tablet, fritters resting on its cool face. The others slept in uneasy packets of cloth and packs, but Layla kept her surveillance. The tablet was empty, yet bucketed with a slow, steady twinkle she could feel in her bones. When she looked up, the sky was a black ocean.

The rain came vocally — suchlike memory returning after silence. It fell over the Gathering with hushed asseveration, sheeting canopies, hair, and tablets with a shimmering film. Layla stood still beneath the first drops, head listed back, arms relaxed by her sides. She had forgotten the last time she truly noticed rain.

The world was light.A sphere of it, horizonless and light, pressed in on all sides. It was n't the light of fire, nor of sun. It was the light of memory, of possibility, of a thousand paths clustering at formerly.

The Watchers handed them sanctum for the night — an underground den concealed within the atrophied remains. As the others rested, Layla unrolled the scroll Rami had given her. Three characters. Three destinations. The first mark was in Anatolia, buried beneath Mount Nemrut — a place of forgotten lords and false gods. The Watchers called it The Echoing Tomb.

The library smelled of aged diploma and dust, a sanctuary for forgotten knowledge. Professor Nazir saluted them with a sick smile, his eyes sharp beneath thick brows. “ Layla, ” he said, “ You’ve brought commodity extraordinary. ”

The sun dipped low as Layla and Omar stood at the edge of the remains, watching the desert stretch endlessly before them. The black tablet, now dormant, rested against Layla’s casket, warm like a twinkle.  “ We’ve fulfilled the vaticination, ” Omar muttered. “ So why does it feel like commodity’s just begun? ” Layla glanced at him, eyes distant. “ Because it has. I saw commodity in the light — just before the Guardian dissolved. ” 

The Echoing Flame

Snow kept falling and silence descended upon the camp. The flames of the fire had been killed by the wind; there was only the red light of the shards in Elara’s satchel, however. No one spoke. The last words of the shadow man were still ringing in their ears:
“One more piece… and the flame awakens”.
Sukanya, finally breaking the silence, was speaking in a low, edged voice. “What in all the broken worlds was that?
“A warning,” Kael said grimly. “Or a threat.”
“Could’ve fooled me,” Riven muttered. “It appeared to be making a prophecy”.
Elara lowered herself onto the chair slowly and her mind was in a state of great confusion. It was not like the guardian in the temple. It was not here trying us. It knew what we were doing – and it does not want us to succeed”.
Riven looked into the darkness behind the camp. “Great. Therefore, we’ve got enemies who want us to collect the shards and those who don’t. Love the clarity.”

The sun scorched the plains of southern Iraq, casting wavering heat across the dig point. Dr. Layla Haddad knelt in the fosse , brushing down centuries of beach from what appeared to be a gravestone tablet. Her fritters quivered — not from the dry desert air, but from the weight of possibility. This was n’t just any point. This was Uruk, one of the first great metropolises of Sumer, a cradle of civilization.
